Descrizione:
It's 1642, and England is tearing itself apart. Politics and Religion at loggerheads.
Jacob Emerick, the youngest son of the Merchants Emerick, shipping owners, must save the family's gold and ships, under threat from a powerful family, the Fowkes. The Fowkes are supporters of the King, and want their loan repaid now, despite the actual legal agreement. Jacob must travel to a small Kentish town full of bigoted Puritans where he must negotiate with the Fowkes. They are prepared to seize everything the family owns to give to the King for King Charles wants the money and ships, and loyalists to the King will do anything to help their despot and earn rich rewards. But the puritans will do anything to keep that gold and those ships out of the King’s hands and don’t mind how they do it either.
On his journey Jacob finds the dead body of the Fowkes lawyer. It's plainly murder, and Jacob becomes the prime suspect. Now he has to free himself of a murder charge, led by those bigoted Puritans and fend off the treachery of Lady Fowke, eager to support the King, and the puritan politicians.
In a few short months Jacob sheds the easy bravado of privileged youth and become a deep thinker, powerful fighter, and a man of peace.
